Aw Yeah Comics, with two shops in Skokie, IL and one in Muncie, IN, had its soft opening on July 25 with a grand opening set for October 3.
Co-owner Marc Hammond, a recent New Rochelle resident (he moved from the Chicago area), said he and his partners were looking for a small town, not far from a major metropolitan area, that "needed" a comic store and found it in Harrison.
The store's mission, aside from selling books that make people happy, is to build a community. Hammond also intends to get his new business involved and visible within Harrison.
He said the store caters to all ages and tries to have something for kids and adults. New comic books are the biggest sellers but so is their own brand of comics along with The Walking Dead and Magic: The Gathering.
"We want people to know that comics are for everyone, and that everyone is welcome and can be themselves and comfortable here," he said.
To that end, expect lots of creator signings and art events.
Aw Yeah Comics is at 313 Halstead Ave., (914) 732-3600, www.awyeahcomics.com/harrison/.
