HARRISON, N.Y. - DeCicco's Family Food Market opened its doors in Harrison on Friday bringing with it a type of grocery store of this size that the town has not seen before.
Owner John DeCicco said that the Harrison location is the ninth to open in the area. Other locations include Ardsley, Cross River and Pelham. DeCicco said that when Food City closed in April, DeCicco's jumped at the chance to move into the vacated space.
"We've had a lot of requests to open in Harrison over the past few years," DeCicco said. "We think that this is the right area to open in since there is really nothing like this in this part of Westchester County."
Harrison resident Mark Cabral said that the setup of the store and the amount of choices are what will keep him coming back. Cabral said that the store may hurt the other businesses in Harrison but that DeCicco's provides a variety of choices that shoppers can't get anywhere else in town.
Mamaroneck resident Barbara Abess said that she likes the variety of products the store sells.
"It is a little expensive, but most of it is reasonably priced," Abbes said. "I'll definitely come back."
Jay Mezzomo, a Mamaroneck resident said that she had shopped at DeCicco's in Pelham before and is happy that they opened a store in the area that she lives in.
"I'm happy they put a store in Harrison," Mezzomo said. "It's laid out nicely and I'll be shopping here in the future."
