HARRISON, N.Y. -- Just when one popular eatery closes along Halstead Avenue in the village of Harrison, another one opens.

Halstead Ave Taqueria had its "soft opening" on Monday at 261 Halstead Ave.

Owner Luis Aguilera, a graduate of White Plains High School who now lives in Harrison, said he's planning a grand opening soon, "once our sauces and everything are exactly how I want them."

Aguilera offers traditional Mexican cooking, handmade tortillas, made-to order guacamole, freshly-squeezed juices as well as southern and coastal dishes using local seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs.

Lunches range from $3 to $12, and there's also a breakfast menu. Both menus can be found online here:

The new Mexican eatery is in a former Verizon store, which sat vacant at the corner of Harrison Mall across from the U.S. Post Office for more than two years.

Takeout orders can be placed by calling 914-341-1283. For now, the Halstead Ave Taqueria is open seven-days-a-week.

On the opposite corner of Harrison Mall's alley, Rue Des Crepes closed after about eight years of declining business.
