Harrison Mayor Recaps Astorino's Westchester County Association Talk

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Westchester County Association’s annual breakfast where Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino discussed his economic vision for 2016.

He illustrated economic trends for the year ahead and unveiled a five-point program that includes job training programs for health care workers, a technology competition for students who are interested in designing mobile device applications, and a website redesign effort that will make the County’s site more user-friendly.

A Magic Box workshop is offered at the Harrison Public Library. Create Valentine's Day gift with the staff at "Make a Memory: Family Photo Books."

The workshop meets Saturdays, Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The following are changes to the sanitation schedule for the week of Jan. 18:

Monday, Jan. 18 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and town offices will be closed.

Garbage and recycling normally collected Monday will be collected Tuesday, Jan. 19, and Tuesday's pickup schedule will take place Wednesday, Jan. 20 (no bulk pickup).

Garbage and recycling normally collected Tuesday, Jan. 19 will be collected Wednesday, Jan. 20 - there will be no bulk trash pickup.

Nora’s Oven Works will feature visiting chefs on select Friday nights to teach a class on their favorite dish.

The classes are for adults or parent-child teams and will begin at 6 p.m. the cost is $25 to $30 per person or couple.

The following is the upcoming schedule:

Chef Anthony, of Delfino's" pasta sauce, Jan. 15; Chef Nora will make red velvet cake.

Chef Bill Powell, of Powell's, burgers, beers, peach cobbler, Jan. 29.

Chef Chai-Li (resident chef), Chinese dumplings, lemon meringue pie, Feb. 5.

The Harrison High School Debate Team has earned four wins; three second place finishes, two third places, qualified four students to the year-end Tournament of Champions, and racked up 12 TOC bids.

This makes Harrison the third highest ranked team in the country.

Congratulations to the entire team on this very prestigious accomplishment.
