HARRISON, N.Y. -- Thirty years after it merged two small local insurance companies, York International of Harrison has become one of the leading insurance providers in the country.

York will be one of six individuals and companies to be honored on Tuesday, April 21, at The Business Council of Westchester’s Hall of Fame Awards at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. Tickets are available through The Business Council of Westchester website .

York will receive the Small Business Success Award which Robert Kestenbaum, CEO, will accept.

York was created through the merger of Paul Krantz & Co. and Great Bay Brokerage. Based in Yonkers at the time, the firm had a small community footprint with a small staff.

Since then, the company has blossomed into a firm that has revenues of $13,000,000 annually and 65 full-time employees.

It moved to Harrison at 500 Mamaroneck Ave. in March 2011. Its space includes state of the art technology and was designed with attention to efficiency, safety and an ergonomically correct atmosphere in mind.

York’s team of 42 insurance professionals represent 3,000 clients and $100 million of gross written premiums placed with various insurance companies. The company tailors risk management programs to meet the unique needs of each client.

Specialty practices include Property, Casualty and Employee Benefits for businesses ranging from local sole proprietors to multi-national corporations, as well as Personal and Life insurance policies for clients within Westchester and the surrounding communities.

York International has a long history of community involvement with a focus on Westchester County. More than half of its staff currently resides in Westchester -- including CEO Robert Kestenbaum, who was born in Mount Vernon, where he also grew up, and now lives in Scarsdale.

Kestenbaum currently serves as a Board Member of the Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon and employees are encouraged to volunteer in the communities they serve. York’s employees have volunteered at events such as environmental clean-ups, walk-a-thons and serving meals to families in need.

The business has been recognized as one of the top insurance agencies in the United States on several occasions.

The Independent Agents and Brokers of America honored York International with their top award, naming it as the No. 1 Agency in the U.S. in their Best Practices Study for 2010, 2011 and 2012. MarshBerry, a leading consulting firm specializing in the insurance agency industry, named York International as their PINnacle award winner in 2010, which recognizes the top insurance agency throughout MarshBerry’s entire database of over 200 agencies across the U.S.

In addition to these two awards, York was named one of the Top 100 Independent P&C Insurance Agencies of 2013 by Insurance Journal.
