IBM Announces Job Openings While Reports Of Layoffs Abound

As reports of layoffs throughout IBM come in, the company said Monday it has more than 25,000 openings as a part of major changes to refocus their business to cloud and analytics departments, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

It is unknown how much this will be felt in Poughkeepsie though the Wall Street Journal reported Poughkeepsie was among the locations involved in layoffs but IBM declined to answer questions about the extent of the local impact from either the layoffs or the job openings., according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

In April, IBM Corp. reported a 16th straight quarter with declining revenue and last week, IBM announced plans to vacate a 730-acre Somers campus by March 2016, moving employees to the North Castle facility, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Somers Supervisor Rick Morrissey confirmed reports that IBM plans to leave town, with a departure set for next year and relocate workers to Armonk, Daily Voice reported last week.
