The Huffington Post collaborated with Yelp to calculate the percentage of a given type of shopping business relative to the total number of business listings in that state, according to a story on The Huffington Post.
Then, it compared those percentages with each type of store's representation nationwide and produced a list of the top 10 most disproportionally common stores in each of the 50 states.
Here are the most popular stores in New York, according to the story:
Bespoke clothing -- 457 percent higher than national average. Leather goods -- 211 percent higher than national average. Luggage -- 204 percent higher than national average. Cooking classes -- 174 percent higher than national average. Men's clothing -- 155 percent higher than national average. Photography stores and services -- 145 percent higher than national average. Eyewear and opticians -- 143 percent higher than national average. Hats -- 141 percent higher than national average. Framing -- 137 percent higher than national average. Wigs -- 137 percent higher than national average.
