PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Bad winters aren't bad news for some businesses. Car washes are a shining example.

Hope Klein, left, owner of US 1 Brushless Car Wash in Port Chester called it her busiest winter season in 15 years. She was not complaining about more wicked winter weather in the forecast.

Hope Klein, owner of US 1 Brushless Car Wash a block away from Interstates 95 and 287 in Port Chester was dressed for frigid weather Thursday, but had a huge smile on her face when asked how many dirty cars were coming out clean daily at her establishment.

"I can't say,'' Klein said, "but it's our busiest winter in 15 years."

Wearing a Fargo-like hunter's cap and collecting cash nonstop, Klein said the snowy conditions and lack of rainfall has combined for a win-win season.

Her car wash, opened by her mother in May 1980, also has some of the lowest prices in the region, starting at $9 for a basic wash, and $12 for undercarriage spray and wax job.

The car wash, at 301 Boston Post Road, is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., unless the wind chill temperature dips to about 0 degrees, and then water will not evaporate and dry off the car's surface.

Diamond Car Wash at 324 Halstead Ave. in Mamaroneck, a block from the train station, has car washes that start at $13 plus tax including vacuuming the interior, hand-washing the interior windows and hand-drying the exterior. Despite long lines at Diamond's this week, the wait was less than 10 minutes, and you can wait for your vehicle indoors where there are vending machines.

Dip In Car Wash at 712 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck, starts at $11 which includes vacuuming and hand-drying.

The best regional deal was at Magnotta's Car Wash at 340 Central Ave., White Plains, near City Limits Diner. Basic car wash specials started at under $8 this week, but the lines were much longer, too. "The Works" costs $23 plus tax. Magnotta's is typically open from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. but stayed open past 6 p.m. some nights this week.

Other popular local car washes include Splash Car Wash at 170 S. Kensico Ave.,White Plains; Julio's Brushless Car Wash at 15 W.Main St., Elmsford; Mr. Bubbles Brushless Car Wash at 40 N.Stone Ave., Elmsford;
