WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Chefs coming from Perú as well as local Peruvian chefs will join hundreds of people at the Tasting Peru Food Festival and Expo, the only Peruvian cuisine and cultural festival on Sunday, June 22.
The event will be held at Crawford Park, in Rye Brook on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from noon to 7 p.m.
The Pachamanca, a well-preserved traditional food of the Incas, will be presented in its original style -- a stone oven will be used to cook the meat and the traditional food and the Pachamama, an Andean ritual with music, will be performed to offer tribute to Mother Earth. Among other food, roasted beef known as “Carnes al Cilindro” will be served.
International Peruvian chef Irina Herrera, coming from Spain, will conduct a master class on quinoa that will be open to local chefs as well as anyone who wants to learn about the different ways to prepare meals and desserts consisting of the Andean grain.
This year, the local chefs will present dishes from both the coast and the Andes and will include Ceviche, Ají de gallina, Tamales, Tamalitos verdes, and more.
The “Best Ceviche” Contest will take place during the festival, and renowned Peruvian chefs will act as judges, including Emmanuel Piqueras, of Panca restaurant in Manhattan.
The display of Peruvian food will also include typical desserts such as Picarones, cakes and traditional sweet dishes. Chicha de jora, the sacred drink of the Incas, will also be on available.
Peruvian musicians Corina Bartra and Afro-peruvian Jazz Band and Carlos Yamasaki Ayllón, director of Sarandango will perform at the festival. Chicha Libre, a group from Brooklyn just finished a tour in Europe will present a tribute to the Cumbia (tropical music from the jungle).
