WESTPORT, Conn. Drive by the Westport Police Department and you'll notice a small red and white flag with a blue star flying underneath the American flag.
Known as a military service flag, it's a show of support for Officer Michael Ruttenber, a sergeant in the Marine Corps who is currently deployed in Afghanistan, Capt. Sam Arciola said.
To further support one of their own, Arciola said the department has also been sending food to Ruttenber's unit in Afghanistan.
Ruttenber, 29, was among five officers sworn into the department last February. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan prior to this current deployment.
