Harrison Holiday Throwdown Raises Money For Toys For Tots

HARRISON, N.Y. -- It's not too late to take part in Saturday's Harrison Strength Holiday Throwdown, which raises money for the Toys For Toys Foundation.

Weigh-ins begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Harrison Strength & Fitness, 75 Calvert St. in Harrison.

The first lift begins at 11 a.m.

The entry fee for all competitors is a new, unwrapped toy. 

Spectators are encouraged to bring at least one toy to donate as well. 

Athletes will compete in three events and trophies will be given to the top three in each weight class. 

All athletes are encouraged to wear holiday-related attire. Also, this is a beginner/intermediate level event, "just for fun, to support a good cause, so don't be afraid,'' organizers said on Friday.

Registration is capped at 10 entries per weight class. After the last heat, there will be a post-event social, so family and friends are encouraged to come spend the day with their entered competitors.

Belts, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, and chalk allowed for all events. 

The weight classes are: 

-- Men's Lightweight: 180 pounds and under.

-- Men's Heavyweight: 181pounds and over.

-- Women's Lightweight: 150 pounds and under.

-- Women's Heavyweight: 151 pounds and over.

-- Men's Masters: No weight class, just ages 40 and over.

-- Women's Masters: No weight class, just ages 40 and over.

EVENTS:

Candy Cane Clean & Press (Decorated Log or Axle) 

With a continuously running clock, athletes will complete three reps the first minute, four the second, five the third, six the fourth until a six-minute time cap. Final minute will be for max reps.

Axle Seated Hand-over-hand Sleigh Pull (Decorated Sled)

From a seated position, athletes will pull a Sleigh loaded with "gifts" 40 feet (hand over hand with a rope) then carry the contents of the sled one by one 40 feet back to the opposite side. Score will be fastest time. (Two-minute time cap.) 

Santa Deadlift (Chair on Car Deadlift Frame) 

With a continuously running clock, athletes will have 90 seconds to lift Santa for as many reps as possible. Score will be total number of reps completed.
