HARRISON, N.Y. The Harrison Public Library will host a Westchester County Historical Society presentation, From Wigwams to Corporate Headquarters on Sept. 24.
I think it will be a great event, said librarian Judith Clark, who put it together. Young people particularly will enjoy it, especially those in high school. They study American history, they have to learn local history.
Patrick Raftery of the Historical Society will deliver the slideshow presentation, which will focus on the early history of Westchester County leading up to present day in Harrison.
I think its going to be a very general history of Westchester County," Clark said. "How it started, the Native Americans, when the Dutch came in, and then maybe the American Revolution, maybe mention the Civil War, and it became a popular place for people to live, and now all the corporate headquarters in Harrison and White Plains.
When asked why she picked this particular event, Clark said that it is important to know your local history.
Were trying to do more events at the Harrison Library and I happen to enjoy history, said Clark. I went online and looked up the Westchester Historical Society, and I spoke to someone who recommended this program.
Clark is excited for the presentation and is hoping mostly for pictures of old houses from the 1700s, to learn more about the Native Americans who lived here, and a discussion about the Battle of White Plains.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and a question and answer session will follow the slideshow presentation.
