Harrison Memorial Day Parade Steps Off Monday

HARRISON, N.Y. — Harrison will honor its veterans Monday morning with the town's Memorial Day Parade.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and will go down Halstead Avenue and turn into Ma Riis Park. Parade organizer Ben DeFonce, a Korean War veteran who earned a Purple Heart, said that captains from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force will speak.

Also participating in the parade will be Harrison Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Harrison High School Marching Band and Majorettes and various community groups.

"We try to make people understand that we should never forget and let them realize what we are fighting for — for their freedom," DeFonce said before the Town Board at last week's meeting. "When you see a veteran, just say thank you for our freedom, thank you for your service. It's wonderful that people still respect us."
