Caramoor Salutes Rising Stars and Judy Evnin

A constellation of concerts and celebration radiates this weekend at Katonah's Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts when the young musicians of its Evnin Rising Stars program join their mentors to perform two concerts, on Saturday and Sunday. Also, Judy Evnin, who has championed Caramoor's Rising Stars, as an indefatigable board member, board chair emerita and patron, will be honored for her support, dedication and service to the performing arts institution. In her honor, Caramoor added Ms. Evnin's name to its Rising Stars mentoring program this spring, to recognize her on-going distinguished service, which includes board membership, since 1994 and its chairmanship for eight years.

“Since she joined Caramoor’s board some 17 years ago, Judy has been unfailingly supportive of the Rising Stars, not only as a major donor, but also as an organizer and emotional center of the program,” says Michael Barrett, Caramoor’s Chief Executive and General Director. Ms. Evnin will be celebrated with a short video presentation and dedication on Sat. Oct. 29, before the first of the concerts. Saturday's 8 p.m. Evnin Rising Stars concert in the Center's Rosen House Music Room, features works by Haydn, Schoenberg and Brahms, and is followed by a members-only champagne reception in Ms. Evnin's honor.

The Evnin Rising Stars and mentors perform a second concert, on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m., which includes works by Mozart, Faure and Schubert. This year's roster of Evnin Rising Stars includes: Nikki Chooi, violin; Ying Xue, violin; Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, violin; Rose Armbrust Griffin, viola; Philip Kramp, viola; Jeong Hyoun Christine Lee, cello; Alice Yoo, cello; Andrew Tyson, piano. The program's mentors include: Pamela Frank, Director, violin; Kim Kashkashian, viola; Peter Wiley, cello.

Now in its second decade, Caramoor's Evnin Rising Stars mentoring program, run by Pamela Frank, selects eight to ten young talented musicians on the cusp of careers, and offers them a week of workshops led by established musicians. The week culminates in concerts. Tickets for this season's Evnin Rising Stars' concerts, on Sat. Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. and Sun. Oct. 30 at 4 p.m., are $25 and are available through Caramoor's website. Hear these young talents perform and experience the rich, musical collaboration made possible by Caramoor's unique Evnin Rising Stars program and by committed individuals like Judy Evnin.
