GREENBURGH, N.Y. Last week's town board meeting had residents up in arms as the public hearing portion did not begin until 10 p.m., and the whole meeting did not adjourn until after 2 a.m.
The town board placed a 90 minute budget oversight committee presentation before any members of the public were allowed to speak. Even though the board meeting was supposed to be dedicated to hearing the public's views on the budget, many residents left before sharing their thoughts since they felt Wednesday night's meeting went too late.
In response, the town board added two public hearings on the budget, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 14 during the regular board meeting.
In addition, the town board is continuing with its focused budget meetings. During Tuesday's work session, they will meet with the courts at 9:30 a.m., the building inspector at 11 a.m. and the library at 7:30 p.m.
In past weeks, the board has met with the comptroller, the police department, the tax receiver, the department of public works, the town clerk's office, the purchasing department, the Theodore D. Young Community Center and the parks and recreation department.
The town has two proposed 2012 budgets the "A Budget" for the entire town including the villages, and the "B Budget" for Unincorporated Greenburgh. The "A Budget" is $15.6 million, a $100,000 growth from 2011. While it meets the tax cap, it has an increased tax levy of two percent and an increased tax rate of 4.6 percent. The "B Budget" is $66.6 million, a $1.4 reduction from last year. Its tax levy is up by two percent and the tax rate is up by 3.3 percent.
All meetings will be broadcast on Greenburgh Public Access TV and through the town's website.
