County Office For The Aging Offers Myriad Activities For Senior Citizens

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- From brain games to learning about Medicare, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging has a host of events for seniors all across the county, according to Mary Kaye Dolan-Anderson, director of the office and the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Rhinebeck Senior Friendship Center: The center recently moved to a new location at the Memorial Lutheran Church at 1232 Route 308. The Center, open Monday-Thursday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., offers transportation to the center and weekly grocery shopping trips for those without a car. They also offer a midday meal and socialization and special events. For information, call 845-758-0571. 

East Fishkill "Brain Games:"  “Brain Games” classes are offered at centers across the county, but the newest class begins this month at the East Fishkill Library, 348, Route 376 from 2 to 3 p.m. every Monday. The game is a great way to get out of the house and make new friends. For the class nearest you, click here.

2016 Medicare classes: The office will present a number of free training sessions on Medicare for residents who are nearing 65 or would like to learn more about the program.There is a monthly workshop in the Poughkeepsie Galleria Community Room on the third Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. until noon. The program offers a basic overview of what Medicare is and what it covers.

For those in the northern Dutchess area, the Medicare classes are held at 4 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at the Center for Healthy Aging at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. In addition, for senior that have computer skills and want to learn how to navigate the Medicare website, a training session will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Adriance Memorial Library Computer Lab, 93 Market St. in Poughkeepsie.
