Girls Basketball: The girls basketball team, led by 28 points from Lindsay Halpin, defeated Westlake High School in the quarterfinals with a final score of 61-48. The win put the girls back into the Westchester County Center and in the Class B semifinals for the 10th consecutive year. They will play Valhalla High School Friday, Feb. 26 at 4:45 p.m.
Wrestling: The Irvington High School varsity wrestling team competed in the Division II Sectional tournament last week and placed four wrestlers in the top six in their respective weight classes. Tim Meszaros placed third at 195 pounds, Cris D'Amelio placed fourth at 113 pounds, Peter Tarulli placed fifth at 106 pounds, and Matt Montaruli placed sixth at 138 pounds.Varsity Ice Hockey: The varsity ice hockey team, seeded No. 8 in the Division I sectional tournament, won their opening round game over No. 9 seed New Rochelle on Feb. 22, with a final score of 4-1. Alex Inglis had a hat trick and Christian Enax added an assist. The team will advance to the quarterfinals.
Boys and Girls Winter Track: The winter track team had outstanding performances at the sectional championships and state qualifier meet. Zoe Maxwell was named Class B sectional champion in both the 300-meter and triple jump. At the state qualifier meet, Maxwell took second place in the 300-meter and fifth in the triple jump. Her second-place finish in the 300-meter qualified her for the state championships,.
Boys Basketball: The boys basketball team took on No. 2 seed Putnam Valley last week in the opening round of the sectionals. Looking to pull off the upset as the No. 15 seed, the team kept the game close and tied the score at 32-32 with just three minutes to play. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on Putnam Valley through an outstanding three-point shooting from Dan DeMatteo, but they fell short in the end and lost 40-34.
