It happened around 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28 on the Southern State Parkway in Babylon on the westbound side near Exit 35.

State Police are saying that an investigation revealed a 2015 Infiniti Q50 was traveling in the center lane while approaching the exit when it struck a 2015 Jeep Compass in the rear.

The impact caused the Infiniti to exit the roadway onto the right shoulder where it struck a tree, killing the driver and sole passenger inside, according to state police.

The driver has now been ID'd as Jevon Lyken, age 19, of South Richmond Hill, Queens, and the passenger has been identified as Debarpita Dey, age 18, of Corona, Queens.

The impact also caused the Jeep to spin and strike the center concrete barrier, returning to rest in the left lane.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to investigate.

This crash is under investigation and the state police is asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to call 631-756-3300.
