EASTON, Conn. Peter Gorman was fueling up at the Easton Village Store after finding dry pumps on Sport Hill Road in Fairfield on Saturday afternoon.
Business was brisk as cars lined up at the village store to get gas. Manager George Kocadag said the store was all out of propane and doesnt sell D batteries used in many flashlights.
Im going to get water in my basement for sure, said Gorman, who lives in Easton. I have a vacuum for it it will flood, without a doubt.
Charlie OReilly, an AT&T cable splicer, said he has been stocking up on supplies and is prepared to work mandatory shifts all week. The crews will wait for the power to be back up and will not be out Sunday as Hurricane Irene rages.
Maple Row Growers turned over all of its plants to prepare for the hurricane. Rain and thunderstorms are possible Saturday night with heavy rainfall and an east wind of 14 to 19 mph and increases to 31 to 41 mph and up to 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service. A north wind Sunday of 55 to 65 mph can increase to 50 to 70 mph with 85 mph gusts. Easton can see rainfall amounts of 3 to 4 inches on Saturday night and more than 4 inches Sunday.
