“Neuberger Museum of Art collaborates with artists whose work is not only of the highest art historical significance and aesthetic quality but also demonstrates critical perspectives that have influenced their peers and had a lasting impact on younger generations," said Chief Curator Helaine Posner. "Louise Fishman is such an artist.”
Fishman's work both embraces and reinvents the Abstract Expressionist tradition. This is her first career retrospective.
“My paintings are very athletic, very musical; they’re architectural,” Fishman said. “Feminism taught me I could do anything.”
The retrospective follows Fishman's career with more than 50 works from 1968 through 2015.
The Neuberger Museum of Art is at Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.
