Barbara Logie Jakacki, 75, Of Ridgefield, Developed Recipes For Lipton

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - Barbara Logie Jakacki of Ridgefield and a longtime resident of New Canaan, died Sunday March 24. She was 75.

Jakacki was born and raised in Upper Montclair, N.J. She attended Montclair High School. She went on to attend Cedar Crest College and graduated with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1959.

She worked at the Thomas J. Lipton Company in Hoboken, N.J., throughout her career she developed recipes for many food corporations including Lipton, Oroweat Bakeries, Sunbeam Bread, and Celestial Seasonings Teas.

A selection of Jakacki’s recipes was published in Cooking Light magazine, and she wrote a cookbook comprising her favorite recipes, A Tapestry of Soups and Stews.

Soon after moving to New Canaan in 1976 she joined the Park Street Singers and the American Association of University Women, two organizations in which she was a member for almost four decades. In recognition of her longtime commitment and volunteer contributions, she was recognized as the 2012-13, AAUW New Canaan Branch Named Gift Honoree.

Jakacki is survived by sister, Virginia Carr of Boothbay Harbor, Maine; daughter, Diane K. Jakacki of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Robert S. Jakacki (Peggy Nelson) Jakacki of Chappaqua, N.Y.; daughter, Lynne Jakacki Eyberg (Rand) Eyberg of Stowe, Vt.; three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Douglas and Mary Logie; husband, Ben.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 6, at 12 p.m. at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, Park St., New Canaan, Conn. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Connecticut Chapter of the ALS Association.
