New York State will realize nearly $80 million in savings due to New York Power Authority NYPA energy efficiency projects on 10 SUNY campuses statewide, including Purchase College. State officials will join NYPA leaders and SUNY administrators, as the governor’s office announces the energy efficiency advances during a press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at Purchase College.

The NYPA projects are reported to realize a reduction in peak energy use by about 3.6 megawatts and will help to eliminate 21,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year, representatives said.

"Purchase is a leader among SUNY campuses in energy-saving endeavors, with multimillion-dollar energy-efficiency installations including new lighting, heating and ventilation upgrades, new electric motors, and replacement of outdated boilers and chillers—anticipated to save the college approximately $3.5 million annually in energy costs," representatives said.

Tens of millions of dollars in energy-saving improvements at other SUNY colleges will also be highlighted, according to a release.

“Purchase College and NYPA have had a long and successful history working together on various energy projects,” said Purchase College President Thomas J. Schwarz in the release. “Our future collaborations will not only benefit our students, faculty and staff but also assist in achieving the noteworthy statewide goals outlined by Governor Cuomo’s administration.”
