Summer Concert Series Opens in Downtown Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. – Harrison’s Summer Concert Series had its first downtown performance Wednesday night at Ma Riis Park.

The Wanderers, a cover band playing tunes from the 1950s and '60s took the stage Wednesday night performing a medley of classics from The Rolling Stones and Motown groups. The concert series had its first event at the Oakland Avenue Field on the Fourth of July and offered Italian music in West Harrison last Thursday night.

“It’s another leisurely activity that we provide for our residents,” said Recreation Superintendent Gerry Salvo. “We started this many years ago in hopes of bringing the community together and to help some of the merchants both downtown and in West Harrison.”

The Summer Concert Series, held downtown on Wednesday nights and in West Harrison on Thursdays, will feature variety of performers and musical styles. This Thursday in West Harrison, the Moonlight Cruisers, featuring Jackie DiMaggio, will perform while country rockers the I-40 Band will take the stage in Ma Riis Park next week. The town will feature local metal band Counterfeit Society to the downtown stage July 25 while Southern rockers the Sundown Band will perform in West Harrison the following night. Salvo said he would like to thank resident Dave Franz for helping to set up the musical acts.

“This is a great town and this is just another activity our recreation department offers," Salvo said. “For me, just seeing people enjoying the beautiful night is great. It’s nice to see people setting up blankets and having dinner and snacks here.”
