PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Purchase College’s School of the Arts announced the lineup for its annual Summer Piano Series on Tuesday, featuring renowned jazz pianist Marcus Roberts.
Roberts, who has been called “the genius of the modern piano” by Wynton Marsalis, will perform 'I’ve Got Rhythm,' a concert featuring the work of George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, and others. Earlier in the evening, the accomplished pianist will take part in a pre-concert Q&A.
Roberts is known around the world for his creative and virtuosic jazz style. Blind since the age of five, Roberts’ remarkable life story and talent were featured a 60 Minutes piece entitled “The Virtuoso.” The wide-ranging conversation will cover Roberts' unique personal history, technique, and his dedication to education and philanthropy.
Also performing in the annual concert series is Purchase College music professor Paul Ostrovsky, an accomplished pianist, and the New England Conservatory's Alexander Korsantia.
“We are very excited to bring these talented individuals to Purchase and to provide the community with access to some of the most accomplished musicians working today, who are also committed to music education,” said Ravi S. Rajan, dean of the School of the Arts.
The program, which brings outstanding professional musicians to campus for public performances, will be held on July 24 and 25 at Purchase' Performing Arts Center.
