Survey Seeks To Determine Westchester Child Care Needs

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Child Care Council of Westchester has released its annual Parent Child Care Survey, and parents are urged to complete it. The goal of the survey is to better understand each family’s child care needs and determine whether those needs are being met, especially in the areas of cost, quality and availability.

More than 700 parents reportedly participated last year, and the results were shared in October at the council’s Child Care Report Card Challenge. According to the information received, more help is needed for families that earn about 200 percent of the federal poverty level. These findings resulted in more funds being allocated to the people in that category during 2014.

The Child Care Council of Westchester is a noprofit organization set up to help make sure that all families, even those with low incomes, are able to take advantage of early child care and education. The survey is the council's most effective way of gathering information.

“Part of the Child Care Council’s mission is to carry the voices of Westchester’s parents to our community leaders and elected officials so that they understand the needs and challenges associated with child care in our county,” Kathy Halas, the council’s executive director, said. “This information we gather is critical to all audiences, as access to quality care affects not only families, but employers and our community at large in so many ways.”

Those who would like to take part in the survey may access it, in English or Spanish, on the council’s website at www.ChildCareWestchester.org, or a hard copy can be obtained upon request. Respondents and their answers will be kept confidential. Everyone who completes the survey by Aug. 31 will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift card.
