The day-long event, tied to The Ides of Trump, a nationwide postcard writing crusade where postcards will be mailed to the White House on Wednesday, March 15, was organized by the Larchmont resident who collaborated with bookstore Owner Francine Lucidon.
Lucidon, who lives in New Rochelle, said she'd been looking for something to do as a way to vent her frustration with the Trump administration but it wasn't until she was approached by Wasserman that the idea for a postcard writing campaign started taking shape.
She is now planning to do a party the last Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until "whenever." Hot mulled cider will be served in the afternoon.
At least 30 people popped by the store, including State Sen. George Latimer (D-Westchester). Ruth Gyure of Larchmont was one of those sitting at a cozy table in the bookstore's cafe. She had run her own postcard party on President's Day but said it was important to keep sending messages to the president.
"One can never have enough postcards," she said. "They work."
Laurie Dallos of New Rochelle agreed. "I'm here to exercise my democratic rights and voice my opinion, fears and concerns," she said.
Wasserman said she was happy with the first turnout and is looking forward to many more. As for why she wanted to organize the event? "Our leaders need to know how angry the public is with the current course," she said. "I feel very passionate about the issues."
