HARRISON, N.Y. Though August is just around the corner and the new school year is lurking in the distance, Harrison kids still have the chance to participate in various camps. The recreational opportunities range from lacrosse and soccer to film and basketball, according to the Harrison Recreation Department website .
Lacrosse Camp: This camp is offered for boys and girls in grades 1 through 10. It begins Aug. 13 and ends Aug. 17. For kids in grades 1 through 4, it will go from 9 a.m. to noon. Kids in grades 5 through 10 will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.
Film Camp: The motto behind this camp is, Make friends, make movies, make an impact. Kids ranging from 8 years old to 14 can participate and will gain knowledge in many aspects of film making. The program runs from Aug. 13 to 17, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Leo Minzter Center.
Soccer Camp: Kids who come to this camp will learn the basic skills of soccer and play games while also enjoying a quick dip in the pool. This two-week 9 a.m. to noon camp runs from Aug. 13 to 27 at Bernie Guagnini Park.
Basketball Camp: Boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 will receive instruction in ball handling, shooting, dribbling and passing at this Sollazzo Center camp. The 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. camp runs from Aug. 20 to 24.
Cheerleading Camp: Girls in grades 3 through 7 will learn instructional stretch, line dance, and jump technique with varsity cheers in addition to swimming at this camp. The Bernie Guagnini Park camp runs from Aug. 13 to 17, 1 to 4 p.m.
Football Camp: Boys in grades 3 through 7 grade can play football from Aug. 13 to 16 starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m. at Bernie Guagnini Park.
Swim Camp: Kids looking to enjoy aquatics while learning stroke development, water safety skills, and water games can join this camp for grades 1 through 3. The West Harrison pool-based camp runs from Aug. 13 to 17, 9 a.m. to noon.
LEGO Camp: Kids from kindergarten through grade 5 will learn the principles and methods of engineering, architecture, and sciences at this camp, which runs from Aug. 13 to 17 at the Sollazzo Center.
