Harrison Graduate to Teach Computer Class

Harrison High School graduate Travis Sluss will be teaching classes on how to use various Apple products as a way to give back to his hometown.

Having gone to Purchase Elementary, Louis M. Klein Middle and Harrison High School, the 2003 graduate is bringing his company, MacInspires, to the Harrison Public Library to teach people in the community the basics of using both iCloud and iPurchases.

“A lot of people in town have these devices but don’t fully understand how they work,” Sluss said. “These are devices that should enrich people’s lives. The classes are pretty much an overview of these devices.”

Sluss, the CEO of MacInspires, said the classes will focus on simple tasks like organizing family photos, which was done much differently just 10 years ago. Sluss credits Apple products for getting him into music and setting up his first home studio on his computer. Having traveled all over the world, including USO tours to Iraq and visits to more than 30 states, Sluss said he saw firsthand how technology is bringing people from different places of the world together no matter what culture they are from.

“We really believe in technology that enables people to do inspiring things in life,” Sluss said. “We are opening up a new classroom in Greenwich soon and are looking forward to educating more people including those in our hometown.”

Harrison Public Library Director Galina Chernykh met Sluss and business partner Loren Gelbstein in Mamaroneck at a similar workshop. When she found out the duo is from Harrison, Chernykh jumped at the chance to get them to the library.

“I think it’s a great to give back to the community, especially with technology, because it is changing the way we shop and work,” Chernykh said. “This is the perfect place for their customers. They are not soliciting information from patrons they are just here to help educate people about technology.”

Sluss, along with business partner and Harrison native Gelbstein, are having the free seminars at 7:30 p.m. April 11 and at 11 a.m. April 14.
