The evening started off with a wonderful cocktail hour and continued with a sit-down dinner, which was wonderfully prepared by the club’s culinary staff. It was a beautiful event, and I enjoyed the lively music and warm conversation. Congratulations to the chiefs and president of the Harrison Fire Department for such a memorable evening. It was an honor to be included.

I would like to bring your attention to Meals on Wheels of Harrison. Currently, this organization delivers meals to many of our senior citizens. According to the Harrison Meals on Wheels coordinator, these elderly residents are home-bound, and many times the Meals On Wheels volunteers are their only connection to the outside world. Recipients receive two meals, five days a week.

The food is prepared at St. Vincent’s Hospital and is delivered to residents' homes by volunteer drivers. St. Vincent’s Hospital generously provides these meals, at a very reasonable fee, ensuring that proper nutrition is available to those in need.

Harrison’s Meals on Wheels is currently looking for volunteer drivers who can commit to a few hours a month. Each volunteer delivers six-10 meals once or twice each month, and the entire process takes about an hour. This organization is not able to function without the assistance of volunteers. A few hours of your time will help keep this much needed program in service. If you are interested, please contact Harrison’s Meals On Wheels at 917-553-4618.

Each year the town of Harrison benefits from the talent and generosity of the Harrison Beautification Foundation Inc. I hope you all have enjoyed the beautiful plantings that adorn our community parks and roadways. I would like to take this time to recognize the foundation for its hard work and dedication in enhancing the appearance our town.

I would like to especially thank the foundation coordinator, Denise DiBiasi, and Nach Marinaccio, the parks foreman, along with the Department of Public Works grounds personnel for providing the town with beautiful new plantings. Their efforts continue to keep Harrison looking its best. This year, the foundation installed spring plantings at several downtown and West Harrison locations. Perennials and annuals have been planted at several downtown locations, and beautiful hanging baskets adorn our main thoroughfares.

The foundation is always looking for landscapers or individuals to sponsor gardens, and all interested should contact Denise Di Biasi at 914-946-9655.

Last week, Harrison’s Westchester Country Club hosted the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. It was great to see so many fans visiting our area and enjoying the tournament. The course was in great shape, and the venue provided exciting competition between incredibly talented professionals. Congratulations to the PGA, the players and the dedicated volunteers.
