A welcome back campfire was held at the Harrison Girl Scout House Oct. 19, where Scouts and leaders enjoyed a campfire sing-a-long and s’mores. Baskets filled with infant care items were donated to Greenwich Hospital for baby girls born on, or around, Oct. 31, the birthday of Girl Scouts U.S. founder Juliette Low. Each basket included a “Future Girl Scout” bib.
On Nov. 1-2, they held a food drive to benefit the Harrison Food Pantry at DeCicco’s supermarket. On Nov. 16, the Harrison Fire House held the Girl Scout’s Pancake Breakfast, where Girl Scouts of all levels were assigned duties, including greeting, seating, serving and cleaning up.
Twelve of the troops donated 20 Thanksgiving baskets to the Harrison Food Pantry, containing all the trimmings for a holiday feast. On Dec. 7, the Girl Scout community held a holiday party at the Harrison Fire House. The admission cost for each Scout was to bring an unwrapped gift that was donated to the Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley. The Scouts then decorated cupcakes, completed a craft, sang holiday songs and made cards for veterans and military personnel. The Harrison Girl Scout community has been collecting items to send to military personnel stationed on the USS San Diego. To date, 11 large boxes containing approximately 50 individual packages of goodies has been sent, along with an envelope full of the card made by Scouts at the holiday party. While the Scouts are supplying the goodies, anyone can adopt a box by donating the cost of shipping ($16 per box).
In his weekly column, Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont praised the local Girl Scouts for their generosity, writing: "Frequently, over the last several months, the Girls Scouts have generously donated Girl Scout cookies along with creating art work and cards for the senior citizens that receive Meals on Wheels. These items have been received with much joy and appreciation. During the holiday season, the Scouts sang holiday carols, prepared holiday cards and provided candy canes. Thank you to all involved, specifically Troop 1880, Leader Selena Cefaloni, Troop 1896, Leader Anna Catanzariti, Troop 2376, Leader Lindsey Helmer, Troop 1885, Leaders Patti Rube and Morela Paris and Troop 2468, Leader Veronika Frohlich for their thoughtfulness and generosity."
