HARRISON, N.Y. – Harrison Boy Scout Troop 9 and Cub Scout Pack 9 completed their first year of existence with overnight camping at Veterans Park over the weekend.

Pack 9 Cubmaster Chuck Sharpe said the overnight event is meant to celebrate all the accomplishments of both the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts throughout the year. Troop 9 Scoutmaster Adam Leckart said the pack was formed at the request of a group of parents and wound up having 40 members.

"Our first meeting was during that huge snowstorm last October, and the place was filled," Sharpe said. "We just had a huge turnout. We are hoping to give these kids a sense of community and teach them to learn basic life skills."

Leckart said organizing the pack/troop was a challenge, but they were still able to hold all the events having to do with scouting such as the Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Dinner and camping.

"We're trying to teach the scouts how to do things for themselves," Leckart said. "We want to give them more confidence. We'll make them do public speaking and they'll be nervous, but once they finish they feel a little stronger. This is all about making kids feel good about themselves and recognizing them for the hard work they put in."

Very nice! When I was young, their were several cub scout/boy scout troops through out Harrison.
I didn't realize they disappeared, but it's good to see they're back!
