Kids Learn Lessons Of 'The Lorax' At Harrison Library

HARRISON, N.Y. – As part of its popular summer movie programs , the Harrison Public Library showed "The Lorax" on Wednesday, teaching a fun lesson in the environment to the kids and parents in attendance.

“It was really funny, and I knew all the voices of the characters, so that was good," said 10-year-old Paprlly Hancock, who went to movie with her father and two siblings. "Just the whole story about how important trees are and just the story about saving them – it’s great.”

The 2012 animated film, based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name, focuses on the Lorax’s push to save his environment. It stars Ed Helms, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White and Rob Riggle.

Hancock’s 7-year-old sister liked the movie as well, but 4-year-old Cass enjoyed it for different reasons.

“I liked when they cut down the trees – I don’t like trees,” Cass said as his sisters and father laughed.

It was “a good initiative for the library to be putting on the movies,” Mark Hancock said. His kids have been taking part in the Harrison Recreation Camp and going to the pool. Next week, they head to their native Australia for vacation. Paprlly said she is excited to begin sixth grade in a few weeks.

In addition to “The Lorax,” the library last month showed “Cars” and “New Year’s Eve.”  It will show “The Hunger Games” and “Leap Year” on Aug. 29.
