Letter: Brakewood's Ideas 'Show Leadership'

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The following letter was submitted and written in its entirety by Peter Pascale.

Democrat Dan Brakewood is seeking the seat for county legislator of District 6. He is running against Republican and Conservative candidate Dan Gelfarb in the Nov. 8 general election. District 6 represents Harrison, Rye and Port Chester on the county board of legislators.

Cut, cut, cut. That's all we hear regarding government spending and taxes. Unfortunately, most politicians find it easier to cut basic services than trim their fat compensation packages or eliminate self-serving patronage positions. Cutting services is easy. What's difficult is creating smarter ways to work so we can reduce spending while enhancing services.

Dan Brakewood is one of few politicians I've seen who understands how to improve 'the way work gets done'. He is fiscally responsible and governs in a prudent manner. Dan strives to improve residents' quality of life while keeping taxes in check. He has achieved such in his local community. If given the opportunity to serve the county some of his goals as a County Legislator include:

- Changing the structure of County government to diminish redundancy, reduce patronage, and increase transparency.

- Leveraging technology to improve how our County interacts with and supports our Cities, Towns and Villages.

- Quickly transitioning Rye Playland Park from a taxpayer-subsidized cost center to an economic profit engine.

- Connecting Westchester Community College with local corporations to deliver value-added professional development training classes. In turn, these programs will generate revenue for the College, encourage corporations to stay in Westchester, and increase job prospects for graduates.

Overall, Dan's ideas show his leadership potential at the County level. Dan will work to restructure our County government in ways that reign in wasteful spending and enhance our services. I'm confident that Dan will work hard to make sure his vision of a smaller, more effective, tax-payer- responsive government become a reality.

If you're concerned about cutting taxes, but want it done in a way that prioritizes your quality of life, please join me and vote for Dan Brakewood for County Legislator on Nov. 8.
