Letter: Gelfarb Will Lower Taxes

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The following letter was sent to Harrison reporter Phil Corso detailing why Republican and Conservative candidate David Gelfarb would be a suitable county legislator for District 6. Gelfarb will run for the position in November's general election against Dan Brakewood (D).

District 6 represents Harrison, Rye and Port Chester on the county Board of Legislators.

As a Port Chester resident, my frustration with our exorbitant property taxes has reached a limit. It's time to reduce the size of government and lower taxes. That's why I support David Gelfarb as county legislator, representing Port Chester, Rye Brook and Harrison.

During Gelfarb's time as a Rye Town Councilman, he voted to cut the town tax levy by over 50 percent; he reduced the town budget by over $1 million, and he increased the town fund balance by 22 percent.

Gelfarb's opponent, Dan Brakewood, has a dramatically different record. He does not have a record cutting taxes or spending. While in office Brakewood supported increased spending in Port Chester by 11 percent, the tax Levy increased 12 percent, and the village debt rose 47 percent. Politicians like Dan Brakewood are taxing the hard working taxpayer right out of this county. That is why we need Gelfarb to fight for us at the county level.

David Gelfarb is a practical, hands-on professional. He championed the policy that Rye Town adopted, which denied health insurance benefits to all newly elected part-time elected officials, including himself. When the need arose for a new personnel manual and employee handbook, he wrote it himself rather than outsourcing the work to an outside vendor. When the town needs to issue Requests for Proposals, he helps write them himself.

We need that common sense, "can do" attitude in the county legislature.

Vote for David Gelfarb on Row B or C Nov. 8!
