Letter: Rye Resident Endorses Keith for Legislator

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The following letter was sent to Mamaroneck Reporter Brian Donnelly Wednesday detailing why Republican and Conservative candidate Suzanna Keith is their choice for county legislator in District 7. Keith will run for the position in the Nov. 8 election against incumbent Judy Myers (D).

District 7 represents Larchmont, Rye, Mamaroneck, part of New Rochelle and part of Harrison on the county Board of Legislators.

Dear Editor, Sports can be a celebration of streaks. Generations of fans have been captivated by Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak, Cal Ripken’s playing in 2,632 consecutive games, Wayne Gretzky’s scoring a point in 51 games in a row, and Edwin Moses’ 122-consecutive 400 meter hurdle wins, among others. Westchester County has established a streak of its own. It is the kind of stretch for which there can be no celebration. The County has now held the dubious distinction of having the nation’s highest median property tax burden for four consecutive years. On account of this seemingly perpetual dynasty, District 7’s voters are confronted with a single, defining question in this upcoming election: “Who can best lead the effort for tax relief from the County Board of Legislators?” Not the incumbent. The incumbent raised Westchester County’s share of the overall property tax burden by 16% during her six-and-a-half-year tenure in office. This year she voted to override 247 of the County Executive’s line-item vetoes that, if sustained, could have made possible a meaningful reduction in the County’s property taxes. The Sound Shore communities will need a new leader to fight for tax relief. Rye City Councilwoman Suzanna Keith is that leader. On the Rye City Council, she fought for a 0% tax hike. She worked to focus spending only on essential programs and services. If elected, she will bring the kind of fiscal discipline and determination to protect taxpayers’ interests that the District has lacked in recent years. She will finally put to an end this unwanted streak and help keep Westchester County affordable for all us. Sincerely, Mark DelliColli
