PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - A 1993 Buick was one of the first cars Brian Mejia ever worked on, but it certainly wasn't his last.
I loved that vehicle, said the now-service manager at Valvoline Instant Oil Change in Port Chester. It brought my daughter home from the hospital after she was born and lasted quite a long time.
The Lincoln Technical Institute graduate has worked on thousands of cars since then, and now shares that experience with his team of technicians.
I try to lead by example, Mejia said. His attention to customer service is one way he encourages his employees to follow in his footsteps.
Im involved in every part of the process and help out on every car that comes in here, he said.
The New York City native said he services a lot of regular customers, which might be because Port Chester is a tight-knit community. His technician, Jaime Bosque, has become a familiar face in town, which also might have had a hand in that. Mejia said he can offer customers directions to almost anywhere in the area.
Hes like a human GPS, Mejia joked. He knows how many cracks there are in the street.
Since he started at Valvoline Instant Oil Change in Port Chester last year, Mejia said the location has achieved success. His goal is to keep up that progress.
The store has done very well since Ive been in this position, he said.
