Purchase Engineer Scores With Little League

Mike Connors of Purchase, NY, gave up a high powered engineering job to start his own engineering firm and to have the time to serve in his community. Principal and founding partner of C&F Consulting Engineering in White Plains, Connors does everything from coach Little League to work with charity organizations like the March of Dimes and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

“Hard work and giving back were always instilled in me,” said Connors. He described each of the charities he supports with enthusiasm, but called baseball “his passion.”

Connors began coaching Harrison Little League three years ago when his son Michael started playing. “I have basically coached the same kids for the last three years,” he said. “They are a very good group and play at a high level for their age.”

Connors said his team had a terrific season last year. “We had games we were losing and actually won in the final inning.”

Although his team wins many games, Connors is more focused on teaching life lessons, team building skills, good sportsmanship and camaraderie to his young players.

“You like to see the hard work and dedication pay off,” said Connors. “They are all working together for the collective good of the ‘Team’ and these are probably going to be their friends for life.”

One of his proudest moments of this past season came when the team gave him an embroidered shirt that said “Coach Mike.”

Connors' engineering company also gives back by designing environmentally conscious buildings. C&F was the engineer of record for the the first private LEED Platinum certified project in Westchester County. That building in Armonk dramatically reduced water and energy consumption, in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council’s requirements for the highest possible level a “green building” can attain.

When he isn't working or coaching, Connors and his wife Claudine spend time with their three children.
