RYE, N.Y. — Now entering its eighth year, the Rye Chamber of Commerce’s Mistletoe Magic plans to welcome the holiday season for children young and old on Purchase Street this Nov. 25.
The organization sponsors the outdoor holiday festival to give back to the community for supporting small businesses throughout the year, said Sally Wright, president of the Chamber of Commerce .
The festival, which in the past has drawn more than 3,000 people, will take place on Purchase Street between the Square House to Purdy Avenue from noon until 3 p.m.
Plenty of children’s activities will be offered, with a DJ, climbing wall, puppet shows, train rides through town and hayrides, Wright said. Everyone can enjoy the chili cook-off with a special guest panel of judges picking the winner, she said.
“This is a great way to kick off the holiday season and remind people to support local businesses,” Wright said.
The festival will also feature a raffle to support two $2,500 scholarships awarded to high school students who have worked downtown for small businesses. To qualify for the scholarship, students are required to write an essay explaining why they deserve the award along with their application. The scholarship is presented in June.
Wright, who said the festival is held weather permitting, is hoping for the best. “We are hoping for great weather and to have a lot of fun,” she said.
Mistletoe Magic is an opportunity to show support for local business and be a part of the community, said Sula Pearlman, a chamber member and Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, one of the event sponsors, which has participated in the festival in past years.
“The festival is really all about the community and the kids,” she said.
