RYE, N.Y. -- It is unclear whether Seaside Johnnies by the waterfront in Rye will reopen next summer.
John Ambrose, an owner of the restaurant on Oakland Beach, told LoHud.com and The Rye City Review that he will not take a one-year extension of the contract that the Town of Rye's park commission reportedly offered at an Oct. 20 meeting, according to the LoHud report in the fall.
Earlier this week there was lots of construction activity going on at the adjoining Playland property and workers going in and out of Seaside Johnnies.
Seaside Johnnies is on municipal property and gets a license, not a lease, from the commission, the newspaper said. The license ends at the end of this year, according to LoHud.
In November, Carlos Medrano, one of the partners at Purdy Partners LLC which operates the Harrison Tavern, told Daly Voice he was handling day-to-day operations in a "transition," but did not confirm the restaurant would extend its license.
Still, a voicemail at the restaurant says it will open in April.
