HARRISON, N.Y. Two local Girl Scouts were honored Thursday night by Mayor Ron Belmont and the Harrison town board for their excellence and leadership in improving Westchester.
Class of 2012 high school graduates Gabriella Gizzo and Amanda Pugliese were awarded the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the highest honor, for their work in setting up two programs that have helped people. They are both members of Harrisons Troop 1881.
Gizzo, who graduated from Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, developed Ready, Set, Write! She started the program to benefit White Plains students in grades 3-5. She had others volunteer as well to help the children.
Pugliese, who graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel in the spring, helped Gildas Club in Westchester with two events. The two events were a dress down day and a bake sale with all of the money going to the cancer-fighting charity.
Both award-winning Scouts will be freshmen at Loyola University in Maryland in the fall and leave behind programs that are set up for the future. Belmont said he and the board were proud of their accomplishments and exceptional contributions. He added they had many years of success ahead of them.
