The newly-improved facility is now open for business, and one of the first things visitors will notice is the new carpeting and freshly painted walls in the public areas. Updated furnishings and new computers have also been added.
Harrison has a top-notch library system and it's wonderful to see that this much-anticipated improvement has been completed.
Beginning in January, the Harrison Public Library will, once again, be offering the discussion series, "Great Decisions." This is America's largest interactive program on world affairs and we are very fortunate to have this exciting seminar take place at our library.
The program meets monthly and involves reading articles, listening to leading experts on the relevant topics, and meeting in groups to discuss the most critical global issues facing our world, today. Our Recreation Department is currently taking applications for winter programs. Back by popular demand, basketball clinics, archery and preschool soccer clinics, as well as our wrestling program (first through sixth grade only) will be offered in January.

Recently, the United Way of Westchester and Putman counties reached out to my office regarding the need for foster parents. Currently, there are hundreds of children in Westchester County who need a temporary and loving home. This month, United Way has stepped up its efforts in promoting the need for foster care.

Harrison Town Clerk Jackie Greer would like to remind residents that she has extended office hours to coincide with the Town-Village Board meetings, from 7-8 p.m. These hours are in addition to the after-hour service available during the Planning Board meetings on the third Tuesday of each month.

In closing, I would like to clarify that leaf collection is still in progress. Piled leaves should be left curbside for pickup. Monday, Dec. 19, is the last day in which leaves can be left in piles. After Dec. 19, leaves must be bagged.
Our Highway Department is in the process of doing the final sweep of our municipal roadways and is continuing to pick up leaf piles. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
