Airport Parking is Cheaper at Purchase

HARRISON, N.Y. – In the three months since the Purchase Park-2-Fly program started more than 2,200 cars have been in and out of the Purchase College parking lot.

The college opened up part of its public parking to charge Westchester County Airport riders discounted prices to leave their cars.

"It's a win-win situation we have here," Park-2-Fly Manager Paul Munrett said. "We're doing very well and utilizing some dead space."

Drivers are charged $15 a day - $10 a day if reserved online - a rate that’s less than half the usual cost to park at the airport. The Westchester County Airport charges roughly $30 per day.

"People love the idea," Munrett said. "We're still young but we're growing into ourselves."

Munrett said the airport isn't against the idea, either. Since its opening, some drivers have even been referred to the PP2F program through the Westchester County Airport.

"They're low on space too," Munrett said. "I believe that we can coexist."

The nonprofit program was born out of the Purchase College Association and launched with a soft opening April 1. The money goes back to the PCA to fund college programs, which Munrett said helps the students.

"The money goes directly back to the school for scholarships, capital enhancements and more," Marketing Director Phil Sanford said. "It's a triple-win for the local area."

Two 14-passenger shuttle buses and one van make the four-mile drive back and forth to the airport throughout the week and the PP2F staff also helps riders with luggage.

Munrett said Memorial Day weekend was his busiest yet with more than 250 cars in the lot at once.

The Purchase Park-2-Fly Program offers 24-hour security throughout the week to manage the lot while drivers are away. Munrett said there are also plans to expand in the future with the possibility of car washes, oil changes and more.
