HARRISON, N.Y. In a matter of days, Ron Belmont will be sworn in as Harrison's mayor, ushering in an entirely Republican town board.
With less than a week to go until the New Year's Day inauguration, Belmont and his board have worked to assure they hit the ground running.
"I'm excited to get to work," Belmont said. "Everyone's committed to work together as a board."
As for facing the town's challenges, Belmont said he was confident in his abilities moving into the new year.
"As both a long-standing resident and public servant, I have developed extensive knowledge of Harrison and the issues we face," Belmont said. "My love for our town and passion to represent our community is unconditional. Although there are challenges ahead, I am confident that they can be met."
Also being sworn in Jan. 1 will be council member-elect Malfitano and reelected council member Fred Sciliano. Town Clerk-elect Jackie Greer, Town Judge Marc Lust and Judge-elect Nelson Canter will also be inaugurated in the ceremony.
Belmont and his fellow GOP candidates ousted Harrison Democrats Council member Pat Vetere and Mayor/Supervisor Joan Walsh in November's election.
Malfitano said he was anxious to get back into the mix after serving as Harrison's mayor before Walsh was elected.
"I'm looking forward to serving with a five-to-none Republican board," Malfitano said of the results of last November's election.
The ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 1 at 1:30 p.m. inside the Town Hall building at 1 Heineman Place.
"My goal is to approach our future with a positive attitude and open mind," Belmont said. "I am eager for the opportunity to listen and work together to fulfill our goals."
