Belmont Relies on Write-In Campaign Against Walsh

HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison's Ron Belmont (R) has more than 30 years of experience with the town's recreation department and said he hopes his resume will help his write-in campaign for supervisor during Tuesday's primary elections.

Belmont is running against incumbent Mayor and Supervisor Joan Walsh (D) for the Independence Party line.

"As both a long-standing resident and public servant, I have developed extensive knowledge of Harrison and the issues we face," Belmont said. "My love for our town and passion to represent our community is unconditional. Although there are challenges ahead, I am confident that they can be met."

Belmont has also received endorsements from the Republican and Conservative parties. Walsh was endorsed by the Democratic Party.

There are no primary elections in Harrison for the town council or clerk races.

"My fellow Board nominees, former Mayor Steve Malfitano and current Councilman Fred Sciliano, both have significant experience as elected officials and share my unwavering determination to make Harrison a model community," Belmont said.

Walsh said the primary election was expected to be a close race.

Belmont worked for the Harrison Recreation Department for 36 years and served as the superintendent of recreation for the past 25 years. He most recently volunteered his time as a consultant to the department.

"My goal is to approach our future with a positive attitude and open mind," Belmont said. "I am eager for the opportunity to listen and work together to fulfill our goals."

Town and Village Justice candidates Mark Lust, Nelson Canter and Ronald Bianchi will also be seeking endorsements from the Independence Party. They will be joined by Pasquale Gizzo in seeking the Conservative Party's two lines.

The county's legislature race includes Mark Jaffe of West Harrison running again Dan Brakewood for the Democratic Party's endorsement for District 6. The Conservative Party's endorsement will include a write-in campaign from David Gelfarb.
