YONKERS, N.Y. – The northbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway have been reopened, while southbound lanes will likely remain closed until 7 p.m. after a suspicious package was found Monday afternoon, authorities said.
A Westchester County public works employee doing maintenance discovered the abandoned package around 2:30 p.m. It was lying in a grassy area along the shoulder of the parkway, just south of Yonkers Avenue, county police said.
Authorities shut down the parkway in both directions a short time later to investigate the package. County police and Yonkers police responded to the scene.
Northbound lanes were reopened shortly before 5 p.m. Until southbound lanes are reopened, traffic heading south will continue to be diverted at Bronx River Road.
