Metro-North is running limited service Thursday until further notice while officials from Con Ed work to restore power to the Mount Vernon substation. Some commuters said that the change in schedules has left them unsure when the trains will be arriving and how they can plan their commute. Officilas have said that it could take weeks to fix the problem.
"It has definitely affected me," said Manuel Rivera of New Rochelle as he waited for a train in Harrison, where he works at Dunkin Donuts.
He said that if the train is late it will make him late for work. He said he usually takes the train to his job, but may have to drive so that the schedules do not affect him getting into work on time.
Glen Archer of New Rochelle said that so far it hasn't seemed like that big of a problem, but is unsure how it will be in the days to come.
"I was hoping for a discount because the schedules are off," Archer said.
Since the power outage Wednesday affected schedules, he said he has taken the buses provided for commuters, but was taking the train from Harrison Thursday because he was in a hurry.
"Tomorrow could be a problem if Metro-North is not on time," he said. He has made sure to know the bus schedules in the future, but is planning on heading to Citi Field for a Mets game Friday night and is worried that the limited schedule could affect him getting to the game on time. "I can't take the bus from New Rochelle to Citi Field."
Other commuters have said that they are frustrated because the train is their only option for getting to work. They said that trains have been packed, and that they are never sure when it will arrive at the station. Some have also said that they want Con Ed to be more vocal about what caused the problem and exactly how long it will take to fix it.
