Counterfeit Society Band Rocks Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. – Valhalla-based Counterfeit Society, a rock-metal band, entertained nearly 100 people at Riis Park on Wednesday night as part of Harrison’s Annual Summer Concert Series.

“Enjoying a band, a show, on a beautiful summer’s night outside – who could ask for anything better than that,” asked Dave Franze, who helped put the concert together. “It’s a beautiful thing.”

Franze added that the young four-member band, formed a little more than four years ago, may be “on the verge of success” as their debut CD is in its final stages.

Counterfeit Society comprises guitarist/vocalist John Anthony Maselli, bassist/vocalist James Gisondi, drummer Christian Gisondi, and guitarist Vinny Tiberi.

Grace Vicca, a 60-year Harrison resident, was impressed by their performance.

“They’re young gentlemen – they’re good,” she said.

Another fan was Nick Gisondi, James and Christian’s brother, saying that they have come a long way since their start.

“Oh my God, they got so much better – their singing, the way that they play their instruments, the way their music is written” have all improved, said Gisondi.

Their concert precedes The Sundown Band’s 7 p.m. performance Thursday night at The Village Green. Franze is thankful that the concerts are still around for residents to enjoy. He was quick to thank Gerry Salvo, superintendent of the Harrison Recreation Department, and Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont.

“Gerry Salvo and Ron Belmont continue to keep these concerts alive. There was a time when there was talk about them being stopped because they weren’t drawing the crowds,” Franze said. “But these two guys have kept the concerts alive and look what they do for the townspeople. You got a band downtown, you got a band on the other end of town on Thursday nights, and it’s just a beautiful thing to have in the town.”

The Harrison Recreation Department-sponsored concerts are twice a week till Aug. 15 and 16. Movies will be shown at the Brentwood pool and Ron Belmont pool on Aug. 22 and 23, respectively.
