HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison Chamber of Commerce President Ada Angarano said the town's local mom-and-pop shops have no reason to be concerned about Cyber Monday sales siphoning customers away from their stores.
"I do not see a problem with Cyber Monday for the local merchants at all," Angarano said. "Most of the super sales are with the giant chain stores like Sears, Walmart, Gap, Macy's and others. Our town does not have much competition with those mega stores."
Though it has been discussed that Harrison's downtown shopping district has faded over the years as more shops continue to close or relocate due to financial restrictions, Angarano said the Cyber Monday craze was one factor that won't affect local sales.
Harrison resident Bob Raymonda said his local shopping habits weren't influenced by the hefty deals offered online.
"The things I buy around town are completely different from what I might buy online if I see a good sale happening," Raymonda said. "Cyber Monday should be of no concern to the local stores, unless they want to make more online sales of course."
Major deal offerings have been advertised for most large chain store locations including Kohl's, Target, Macy's and JCPenny to name a few.
"Harrison is home to several mom-and-pop shops," Angarano said. "Places like the Harrison Paint Supply, Harrison Flower Mart, Gabriella's Jewelry, The Art of Framing, the new Wine Vault and several beauty salons, dry cleaners and eateries make our town quite unique."
