According to the NBC-affiliate WPTV, Andrea DeSilva, 39, travelled south to undergo several surgeries. She was scheduled for a tummy tuck, neck liposuction, breast augmentation and lift on April 5 at the Boca Raton Surgery Center.

Two days after the procedures, she fell ill, suffered a stroke and fell into a coma before she died on April 24.

“It’s been hard. She took like a part of me,” her daughter Kerolayne Stuwer said. “It was something she wanted to do. It was a present that she was going to give herself for her birthday and Mother’s Day.”

Daniel M. Zeichner was the doctor who performed the surgery. He said he felt “absolutely horrible” about what followed.

“It can happen to anyone,” he said, adding that such an incident had never happened to him before. The Florida Department of Health’s online registry for physicians shows that the doctor has no disciplinary actions or complaints on file.
