HARRISON, N.Y. -- Former Harrison High School athlete John DeFonce was working hard to overcome his addiction to painkillers -- he was about to complete yet another stint in rehab, had gotten a job, and had returned to school, according to a report on lohud.com
When the once-healthy football player and weightlifter was found dead from an apparent overdose last fall, his family grieved but was not surprised, the lohud article said.
A toxicology report has just confirmed that the 20-year-old died from a cocktail of cocaine, heroin, and other drugs, lohud reported.
And now his mother says she hopes to honor her son’s memory by helping to fight the heroin scourge sweeping the nation, the lohud article said.
